Ear Surgery, or Otoplasty, is a procedure performed to correct disproportionate or misshapen ears. Often children who are born with overly prominent ears that are either disproportionately large or stick out abnormally from the side of the head (or both) become targets of unnecessary teasing from their peers which can damage their self-esteem for years to come. Ear Surgery can reshape, resize, and reposition the ear so that is in harmony with the rest of the face. The earlier the procedure is performed is often thought to be better because it spares the child years of self-conscious teasing and because the ear cartilage is more malleable at an early age. That said, the procedure can still be performed later in life as well.
